So Madonna's back in the Top 200 albums chart this week...with CELEBRATION! The greatest hits album re-enters the chart at #132. Did the press of her flashing her boob help sell a few more copies? :)  Apparently, the album was also on sale at amazon.com last week.

Elsewhere, MDNA holds at #9 on the Dance / Electronic Albums chart for a third week and falls to #196 on Top Current Albums. The album sold 2,309 copies during the week.

Ask Billboard: Is Madonna Ready To 'Turn Up The Radio'?

Madonna is featured in this week's edition of Ask Billboard:

Hi Gary,

To bring up a recent hot "Ask Billboard" topic once again ... what happened to Madonna's album "MDNA"? It's not even on the Billboard 200 anymore. And: no Billboard Hot 100 singles after "Give Me All Your Luvin'."

Does her new label deal not include marketing for radio and/or club promotion? I mean, "Turn Up the Radio" is an out-of-the-box smash. And, as for "I F****ed Up," just change the title to a cleaner version (like P!nk and Cee Lo Green did with "Perfect" and "Forget You," respectively) and it could be a hit. "Masterpiece" should also go straight to radio.

Flashback: A Little Backstory On "Live To Tell"

-Taken from 'The Billboard Book of Number 1 Hits' by Fred Bronson.

Patrick Leonard had just finished the Jackson's Victory tour when his manager asked if he was interested in being musical director for Madonna's Virgin tour. At first he said no, but then he talked to Madonna on the phone, found her charming and agreed to do the two month tour.

By the time the tour was over, Madonna had asked Leonard and Stephen Bray to write songs with her and co-produce her next album, True Blue...

"Turn Up The Radio" Video Filming This Weekend

Madonna is reportedly filming the video to "Turn Up The Radio" this weekend in Florence, Italy, after the shoot was postponed last weekend. According to madonnatribe, the video is scheduled to premiere in mid-July, with the digital single expected to be released then as well. Interscope should be sending out the digital promos to radio and clubs soon, and hopefully it won't be long before we see "Turn Up The Radio" on some charts!

By the way, the photo above is supposedly a Hong Kong CD-R promo. No word yet if this will be the official single cover (maybe not, since this is a picture from 2010) but I just thought it was an interesting tidbit to share.

More Details On "Turn Up The Radio"

Some more new details on the new single release have surfaced today as Madonnatribe is reporting that Interscope has commissioned 2 new remixes of "Turn Up The Radio" by Laidback Luke and R3HAB.  These new remixes and the three previously released 'Smirnoff' remixes will all be promoted to clubs. The best bit of news, however, is that the video and the new remixes will all be released simultaneously. As you may recall, Interscope have had this really annoying habit of releasing the remix bundles waaaay too late for the previous singles, which has done nothing to help with chart positions (not only in North America, but also overseas. Have you seen Madonna's UK singles stats lately?? Yikes). Hopefully this strategy will pay off somehow. It certainly couldn't hurt.

Get Ready For "Turn Up The Radio"

According to drownedmadonna, the video for "Turn Up The Radio", Madonna's third single from MDNA, will be directed by Tom Munro (director of the "Give It 2 Me" Video) on Sunday, June 10th, in Rome. Hopefully the song will be shipped out to radio and clubs soon! We need some new remixes. Another Club Play #1 hit would sure hit the spot as well!

Update: Apparently, the video shoot (which was scheduled to take place today, June 10th), has been postponed.

Chart News: Week of 6/16/2012

I can't believe I'm typing this, but MDNA fell out of the Billboard Top 200 this week from #105 last week after a short 9-week run on the chart. I'm very surprised, I thought for sure it would stick around for at least a couple more weeks. Meanwhile, the album also slides down to #9 on the Dance / Electronic Albums chart.

I have to say, I'm very disappointed. Not in the album itself, I still think it's great, but I'm disappointed in how they handled this era. It seems like everything went downhill after the first week's sales. I really hope this is a wake-up call to Guy Oseary, and Madonna too for that matter. I really think proper promotion would have done wonders for MDNA's sales. *sigh!*

BILLBOARD 200: OFF (From #105)
DANCE / ELECTRONIC ALBUMS: #9 (Down from #5)
TOP CURRENT ALBUMS: #154 (Down from #94)

The Confessions Tour (2007)

"Santa Baby" On Hot Holiday Songs

A correction has been made to Santa Baby's run on the Hot Holiday Songs chart (Previously listed as Holiday Airplay. It seems that the chart was re-named when "Santa Baby" made an appearance, plus the weekly position was previously incorrect). Thanks to Maurice Gravelle for the heads up!
